02/07/2008 Container donated by Mann brother Ltd
Another 40 foot container full of clothes and fabric rolls was sent to India on 3 March, 2008. The materials sent are collected by DOM from local people and organisation in United Kingdom. The container was organised and sent by Mann Brothers of West Bromwich whose continued support has enabled DOM to send clothing direct to the people who desperatelyeed it. We previously had sent night gowns that just could be belted around the waist. The gowns proved to be successful to people who couldn't manage to do up buttons or zips (numbness due to cold or as a result of leprosy) they were grateful to receive something that will help keep them warm and alive. 23/07/2007 £23,000 APPEAL FOR SCHOOL BUS
A Wolverhampton charity is trying to raise £23,000 to fund 2 school buses in India to help children from very poor and illiterate families in remote jungle areas of Orissa to get to their schools. Divine Onkar Mission is seeking support from local business’s and organisations to help boost funds for the much needed school buses. The organisation already provides homes, food, healthcare and education for deprived areas in India. Staff raise money through sponsors, regular donations and their charity shop in Drayton Street. Mr Tersam Lal, who started the mission in 1991 said: “we hope people will not only support our appeal but also come up with their own fundraising ideas to help us provide the bus and its staff. Without the bus children have to walk miles through forests in all sorts of extreme weather conditions which is very dangerous for their health and education.” Any local groups or individuals interested in helping with our appeal please contact our office on 01902 453453 or Tel/Fax 01902459911. Volunteers from DOM were there to speak to the visitors and promote the charity. There was face-painting available for the children, a tombola, jewellery, shoes, suits helping to raise £231 in total. A big thank you to all who donated on the day and took the time to speak to us and find out more about what we do.
